The Greer Civic Association drew its Greer Gazers telescope raffle at the Greer Community Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10. It is the last event on the association's current events page. The Greer Civic Association's event listing shows nothing scheduled for the rest of October, November, or the holidays. That empty page sums up the next seven weeks in the village pretty well.
Between now and late November, most of the planned activity near Greer happens up State Route 273 at Sunrise Park Resort. The village keeps a short list of fixed points. Knowing which ones made it through the season change helps with planning a weekend more than any general guide to fall in the mountains.
The Village Has Already Packed Up Its Summer
The first closures came before the aspens turned. The Butterfly Lodge Museum ran its 2026 season Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., from May 21 to September 19, with entry by donation. It is now closed for the season. Our August look at Greer's late-summer weekends counted down to that closing date. That window has now passed.
The fishing calendar has gone quiet in a way that's easy to miss. Arizona Game and Fish's 2026–27 winter trout stocking schedule, updated October 10, 2026, lists no winter stockings for the Greer-area rows: Bunch Reservoir, River Reservoir, Tunnel Reservoir, and the Little Colorado River. The department says stocking weeks are listed by their Monday and that every schedule is tentative and depends on weather and site conditions. The fish already in the water are still there, but the AZGFD stocking schedule adds no new ones to the Greer lakes this winter. Check it again before you plan a day around fresh stockings.
The Trail Map Is Smaller Than It Was Two Falls Ago
The bigger change is on the trails, and it will last well beyond this season. The Greer Fire started at Greer on May 13, 2025. By the May 17 update on InciWeb, it had reached 15,985 acres of grass, shrub, and timber.
The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests then issued a closure order for Benny Creek Campground and the South Fork Day Use Area. It covers all National Forest System lands, roads, and trails in that area, and South Fork Trail #97 is marked temporarily closed. The order took effect September 30, 2025, and runs through September 30, 2027, unless it is rescinded sooner. Its stated purpose is to protect public health and safety in burned areas. The full text is on the Forest Service closure order page.
That leaves this fall's hiking spread across the trails that still have current Forest Service listings:
- East Fork Trail #95 is listed for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Bikes have to stop at the wilderness boundary.
- West Baldy Trail #94 is a wilderness trail with no motorized vehicles or bicycles. The Mount Baldy summit is on the White Mountain Apache Reservation and is closed to non-tribal members.
- Butler Canyon Trail is listed as a hiking trail, and the page includes trailhead directions.
All three pages were last updated March 2, 2026, and none of them confirms trail conditions for this fall. Treat them as a list of trails that are allowed to be open, not a report on how they look today. The Springerville Ranger District alerts are the place to check before you drive to a trailhead.
The Fixed Points That Stay in the Village
A few things in the village hold steady through the seasons. Molly Butler Lodge, established in 1910, lists dinner nightly at 5 p.m. Its site also lists lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday through Tuesday. The posted bar hours vary by day, and the site doesn't say whether these are fall or winter hours.
Greer Lodge Resort & Cabins calls itself a year-round destination and takes reservation calls and texts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST, seven days a week. Rendezvous Diner and the other village kitchens have no posted fall schedules in what we reviewed. A Raising Arizona Kids feature on fall break in Greer, published August 30, 2026, puts it plainly: hours can be limited or unpredictable, so call ahead. The same piece suggests walking along the Little Colorado River and exploring the Government Springs trails, and both still work in the quiet weeks.
The village list stops there. The rest of the season's events are up the hill.
Where the Calendar Went
Sunrise Park Resort, at 200 Highway 273, is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe. Its fall schedule fills the weeks the village leaves open. Each event below comes from the resort's own pages:
| When | What | Details from Sunrise |
|---|---|---|
| October Fridays and Saturdays, 6 to 9 p.m. | High Elevation Horror | Haunted Coaster, Haunted Hotel, Zombie Shoot; tickets priced per attraction or as packages |
| October 29–30 | Winter Kick-Off featuring Warren Miller | $15 per person; film plus s'mores; outdoor field screening, weather permitting |
| November 1 | Season pass price increase | Passes on sale now at current prices |
| November 28 | Anticipated opening day | Ages for pass eligibility are based on this date |
| December 26–28 and December 31–January 2 | Night skiing | 4 to 8 p.m. |
The High Elevation Horror page promises every Friday and Saturday in October. That leaves the pairs of October 16–17, 23–24, and 30–31. The resort's events archive shows some date blocks that don't line up with Fridays and Saturdays, so confirm a night before you go.
The Winter Kick-Off falls on a Thursday and Friday. The resort plans to show the Warren Miller film outdoors on its field and says the event details and screening location may change with the weather.
The Lodge Reopened, and One Room Is Still Coming
For anyone who hasn't been up since last season, the building is the biggest change. Sunrise says its lodge has been through a remodel costing over $5.5 million and is open again. That includes most rooms, the lobby, the restaurant, the pool and hot tub, the fitness center, and Bigfoot Pub.
The last pieces are a new restaurant, Black Diamond Steak and Spirits, and a new outdoor space. The Sunrise lodging page, last updated June 24, 2026, says the resort expects to finish them soon. Until the resort announces an opening, think of Black Diamond as coming soon. Bigfoot Pub is the sure thing for now. For booking or current hours, the front desk is at (928) 735-7600.
Two Dates That Shape November
Two dates matter on the way to winter. The first is firm. Sunrise's homepage says season pass prices go up November 1 and that passes for 2026–27 are on sale now. According to the season pass page, each pass needs an RFID card, and a lost or damaged card costs $25 to replace.
The second is softer. The resort lists November 28, 2026, as its anticipated opening date and bases pass age categories on it. The page calls that date a Friday, but November 28 this year is a Saturday. The resort's own wording is "anticipated," so treat the date as a target that depends on snow and the resort's announcement, not a fixed day. Once the lifts run, the night-skiing dates over the holidays carry the calendar through New Year's.
Here's how the stretch lays out from the village. Molly Butler's dinner service and Greer Lodge's phone line stay the same. East Fork, West Baldy, and Butler Canyon are still listed as Forest Service trails. South Fork stays closed into fall 2027. Everything else on the calendar, from the October haunted nights to the Warren Miller screening, the November 1 pass deadline, and the anticipated late-November opening, is at Sunrise.
